Can an angel sleepwalk -- or sleepfly? That's the question Lucifer (TOM ELLIS) finds himself asking when he and Detective Chloe Decker (LAUREN GERMAN) investigate a home invasion murder where one of the would-be victims claims to have been rescued by an interceding angel. Lucifer has serious doubts that another of his brethren are wandering Earth interceding in petty robberies, but is given reason to be concerned by his therapist, Linda Martin (RACHAEL HARRIS) that the angel could, in fact, be him, engaging in a little celestial somnambulism over his inability to come to terms with the relationship developing between Chloe and Cain (TOM WELLING).
To prove to himself that he isn't the angel, Lucifer handcuffs himself to his bed that night -- only to be awakened by his brother, Amenadiel (DB WOODSIDE), who has the day's paper featuring a blurry picture of an angel over San Bernardino -- and Lucifer's handcuffs are undone! Could Lucifer's father be playing more games with him by forcing him into doing good deeds in his sleep? Well, there's a good solution for that: don't sleep! Lucifer engages in a week-long sleep deprivation, doing drugs, participating in bare-knuckle fights, rough sex, and binging the entire series of BONES to the point that his exhausted mind starts to think of himself and Chloe as the show's two leads.
While all this is going on, Cain proceeds with his plans to get Chloe to fall for him. It's key to his losing his mark, apparently, so that he can die. Mazikeen (LESLEY-ANN BRANDT) is helping him with his goal, and has mad respect for him, since the end result will be getting Chloe to fall in love with him and then disappearing from her life forever. She sees that as a pretty harsh torture, which makes Cain see it that way as well. In the end, Chloe does start to fall for him, but the ending isn't the one you see coming -- which doesn't stop Lucifer from some pretty dramatic punishing for hurting the detective.
Actors for all occasions and Charlotte Richards' (TRICIA HELFER) new nihilistic outlook on life now that she knows the Divinity is real fill out the rest of this episode, which was one of the better plots for this third season of LUCIFER.
