November 2017 Bombshell Bean J. Bunny

Cosplay opens itself to so many genres for creative people who want to bring the otherworldly to reality. Many draw upon comic books and movies. But even more draw upon video games and Japanese anime films or manga.

That's the forte of our November Bombshell, who applies her craftsmanship and experience to characters like Ibuki Mioda (DANGANROPA 2: GOODBYE DESPAIR) and Cynthia (FIRE EMBLEM). And it takes quite an imagination to fully flesh out a character who exists in a 16-bit world like UNDERTALE.

So without further ado, Critical Blast is happy to present to our readers the Lead Cadette of the Super Stitch Siblings and this month's Critical Blast Bombshell!

What is your interest in cosplay?

I'm like a crafting expert. I'm a maker. I tend to get into creating a lot. If I'm not working on a costume, I'll probably be sewing or knitting. I just learned how to 3D print!

How did you get into it, and what was your first cosplay experience?

I first started cosplaying because I didn't want to be recognized in photos at a convention. Turns out this is pretty dumb, because if you're in a costume, everyone wants yur picture. My first cosplay experience was a contest at my college all the way back in 2003. That was so long ago, we didn't even call it a cosplay contest. I was Saria from THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, in an ill-fitting Goodwill dress and a Party City wig.

What's your secret identity outside of cosplay?

I work with children. I don't care to say more than that, to protect the kids I work with.

What kind of social activities do you get involved in (especially if you are able to incorporate cosplay into it, such as charity events)?

I'm an active member of the ORCs -- the Ohio River Valley Cosplayers, the best cosplay guild in Kentucky or anywhere!  We did a big event in October with Via Colori, a treet painting festival where we helped raise money for foster kids. I'm also an N7 Elite, which is a Mass Effect costuming grup, and I run the Super Stitch Siblings, a Nintendo cosplaying group.

Do you make as much of your own costume as possible or rely on purchased materials -- and is that important overall to cosplaying?

I'm a maker--I love the process! But if you enjoy the costume, making it or buying it shouldn't matter too much.

What's your favorite cosplay -- your go-to look that you just love to put on and act out?

Probably Cadette Toadette. I love CAPTAIN TOAD TREASURE HACKER so much, it's ridiculous. THose costumes are so simple, but they always get a big reaction.
